00(Floridacast) Christmas Eve God’s Birth Exposes How Helpless We Are (Psalm 89:14; John 1:14) (Grace)
When the gift that is given attacks our self-righteous foundation, we definitely don’t want anything to do with it. “Just leave it there under the tree and don’t bother my world view with your grace and peace.” That is the one reason people despise Christmas. God gives Himself freely for our sakes in a way we never could and really don’t want to. But God keeps giving over and over again so we will finally quit fighting and let the good news of living under grace and reality control our lives. We give up our need to be right. Know people like this person in the cartoon? Yep, “it’s a me it’s a me it’s a me old Lord, standing in the need of prayer.” Pray. Pray for yourself to receive God’s kindness. Let go of your need to be right and let the righteousness of God fill you with all the fullness of God. And then you can begin praying for others to receive what you have finally received. 00(Irishcast) God’s Good Gift From Heaven To Earth (Haggai 2v4 2 Cor 9v6)
What’s in this package for you? We are learning this week about how God packages His love for us. Yesterday in our downloaded meditation, we discovered that God sent Jesus gift wrapped in Mary. And the promise for her is the promise for you and for me. God has a gift hidden in each of us to be unwrapped by someone who needs to know the special love of God for imperfect people. This love is called grace. This grace was born in an imperfect stable in Bethlehem and it will be born again through your imperfect world. The love of God comes looking for us. Jesus doesn’t wait for us to seek Him, he seeks and saves us who are lost. God’s love put on flesh and blood so that we might know that God’s love is for real. Today in our downloaded meditation in the prayer journal, you have a chance to hear the special love of God for you spoken in the Shepherd’s Voice. After the podcast download it and share it. 00(Floridacast) All That We Have Comes From God (Habakkuk 2:6; Luke 16:10) (Repentance)
The words above come from a traditional worship song sung as our response after the offering was received. The congregation would rise after the offering and sing it. I have changed the word “alone” to “A LOAN.” My friend, John, who came to Mount Carmel every Sunday for worship taught me this way of understanding the meaning of this song. Everything belongs to God. As the text from Habakkuk declares, all we have is a gift given to us. It is a LOAN or a TRUST. But how do we treat the things we have been given? We need a spirit of repentance to consider again that everything we have comes from our God. How do we return to God what is His? And then we remember that our God is the One who lavishes upon us all He has to give. We can’t out give God! 00(Sundaycast) Advent 4 Floridacast Father And Son Appearing Together (Isaiah 66:2; Titus 3:4 5) (Humility)
What’s behind the curtain? Is God hiding so we can’t see Him or are we hiding because we don’t want God to see us? The word appearing in the NT text lets us know that God has to reveal Himself to us. Until God appears to us we are in the dark, blind even. But when God appears what is revealed to us? Today’s readings are meant to make us tremble at His word and then to let that word fill us with joy.

00(Mission Cast) Love Shaped Kindness (Genesis 50:21 ; Eph 4:32) (Discipleship)
We discuss how the ability to be kind to one another and tender-hearted in rooted in a personal experience with God’s love. When we know we are truly and dearly loved by God we are able to love others as Christ has loved us. Joseph prefigures Jesus Christ, who was betrayed and sold into the hands of evil men by his brothers. Yet Christ forgave them on the cross. He is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. We enjoyed editing two Christmas Special videos that we highly recommend, both produced by THE CHOSEN. One is “The Shepherd” and the other is “The Messengers.” As we watched them, we were deeply moved to tears as we consider that humble condition in which Jesus was born. We wish you all a very blessed Christmas and pray that the wonder of Christ’s love is restored to all of you in deeply powerful ways. Jeff and Mim.

00(Floridacast) Jesus Is Oursolid Rock (1 Sam 2:2; Eph 6:10) (Discipleship)
A rock that is hidden from our eye can be our stability in the rough waters of a river. Knowing where we can rest our leg against a rock makes the rushing waters around us a pleasant time of enjoyment instead of having the anxiety of being forced downstream by the current. Isn’t this what Jesus offers us in the middle of life’s troubles? Having Jesus to rest our body against in the middle of our difficulties helps us to relax when we might feel restless. In 1 Peter 3:15, we are told to give an account for the “hope that is in you.” We give an account of our hope because our body and soul are touching the Rock when we are surrounded by turbulence. We can be at ease in any kind of difficulty because we are resting on Jesus, our Rock who keeps us stable in tough times.

00(Discipleship) Jesus Overcomes Evil (Isaiah 5:20; Romans 12;21) (Guidance)
How many times have we been eager to identify the villain and hope that he or she gets a just punishment? We pride ourselves in making judgments that reveal who is evil and who is good. And we never show up on the evil side. We do our best to impress. But one of the hardest words from Jesus lays this problem of evil right at our doorstep. “If you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” (Luke 11:13). So Jesus knows that we are evil. And we cannot fix what is broken in our hearts for He also says out of our hearts come what is evil (Mark 7:21). But our hope is not in how good we think we are. Our hope is in the one who makes a deal with us…Jesus takes our evil into Himself and makes it His own. In exchange He gives us His goodness. And whenever we are eager to find evil in our neighbor, Jesus gives us this added gift. We can ask forgiveness for our evil thoughts…for our evil way of comparing our goodness with someone else’s evilness. In 1 John 1:9, Jesus promises us (through John’s writing)…”if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just (not like us) and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all evil (unrighteousness).” That’s peace on earth and good will to all!!!!

00(Irishcast)Waiting For God (Psalm 62v5 Titus 2v13) (Trust)
In the season of Advent, we are reminded of the three comings of Christ…the first coming, His coming to us, and His second coming at the end of time. In all of these there is a waiting. The Israelites waited for the Messiah to be born. We wait for Christ to make Himself known to people we are praying for. We all are waiting for the last day when Christ returns and we shall see God face to face. One of the most powerful promises concerning waiting for God is found in Isaiah 64:4 where our God reveals that He is working for us while we are waiting for Him. And more than this, our God loves to act on behalf of those who are waiting. So remember, while you are waiting, you are resting in the hands of your hidden God who is working for you in ways you cannot see. One day you will. And you will know that your God, the Father of your Lord Jesus Christ, has been doing things you could not have thought of or imagined. And your God is doing these things for you because you are greatly beloved. Trust Him again today as you wait. He loves you.
