Our podcasts are 5-8 minutes in length. We create these messages using one or two brief verses from the Bible that come from a devotional book. Our purpose is to help you hear the grace of Jesus in these verses so that your life may find its grounding in Christ alone. It is this grounding in grace that makes forgivin’ livin’ your way of freedom.

00(Theta) Gone (Isaiah 44:22; 1 John 3:5) (Grace) 2
How big a broom does God need to sweep away the sins of the world? Deshler, Nebraska once had a broom factory and now its museum has one of the largest brooms ever created. The photo shows its size compared to two residents of the town. But could this broom be big enough to sweep away all of our sins? You know the answer. The size of the broom is nothing. It is the size of God’s mercy, His grace, His love…and God’s willingness to become the broom that sweeps away our sins. The broom is as big as God. And that is the assurance you and I have that our God has cleaned up after us and we are clean. Your God loves to clean up after you. And He once said, “it is finished.” So you are clean. God did it.

00(Awaken) God Remembers Us In Mercy (Jeremiah 31:20; Romans 11:2) (Grace)
There are many verses in the Old and New Testament that declare God’s love for us and even more as He says in Jeremiah, God delights in us. But sometimes words aren’t enough. in case you have your doubts about your goodness in God’s eyes, remember. Remember what God did for you on the cross. Remember how God connected His death to the last Supper when He said, remember. Be assured that every time you struggle with your unworthiness, as was considered yesterday, remember. Remember how your God wants to be remembered.

00(Irishcast) God's Mercy Toward Me (Gen 32v10 1 Tim 1v16) (Grace)
Knowing you are not worthy of the special love of God for you makes you all the more grateful when the truth of God’s love breaks through to you. We are never prepared for the powerful surprise that comes to us when God’s grace becomes real. Today would be a good day to share your story of how our Lord overcame your unworthiness with grace upon grace. Dana Carvey and Wayne Campbell do a short drama of how unworthy they are when a rock singer invites them to stay around (movie “Wayne’s World”). Over and over again they announce, “we’re not worthy.” That’s not your experience I know, but it is a funny example of how receiving favor does overwhelm us as it did Jacob in today’s texts.

00Welcoming Outsiders (Leviticus 19:33; John 15:14) (Discipleship)
Christ commands us to love others as He loved us. And this love includes the foreigner, the outsider. We all have been on the outs at times and we all need the love of others to help us know that we are included. The Superbowl commercials often try to tug at our heartstrings if not our pocketbook. But there was one yesterday that made me cry. Did any do this for you? it was the one about the girl who had to move from their home into a new neighborhood. She was sad. And the welcome the family received in the new town was not pleasant. Until problems arose. A lost dog. A storm. A limb broke off a tree. Now problems bring people together. The ad agency that created the commercial knows something about how vulnerable we are when we have to move (like into a nursing home even). We need to feel the love of those around us to help us relax and know that someone cares for us and we can feel their compassion. I wept when I saw this partly because when I was 8 years old, we had to move and I hated it. I still feel that inner sadness at times about being a foreigner in the second grade at our local school. Can you imagine how many people who live near you that need to know they are loved? God has placed you in your neighborhood to be His minister of love. He will lead you. He will bless you. Just so you know, today we are having our first home Bible study meeting for people who live on our street. If God can move us to love, I’m sure He can move you.

00(Sundaycast) God Creates Glad And Generous Hearts (Psalm 126:3; Acts 2:46 27) (Peace)
These verses today remind us of the importance to proclaim praises to God in word and song. It is something we do together as believers. When we gather in the Word and share all that God has done for us with one another, thankfulness arises. It is also connected with forgiveness and letting go of offenses and resentments that give us a rejoicing heart! When the Father of the prodigal son met him on the road, he was rejoicing as he hugged him in forgiveness. We long for these opportunities to be restored in God’s love and grace with one another. It isn’t just some ideal picture, but a work of the Holy Spirit. Let’s resist the temptation to be sour and negative by reading Romans 12: 9-12 and asking the Holy Spirit to pour these words into our hearts. “Let love be genuine, hate what is evil, cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”

00(Mission Cast) Peace In Jesus (Isaiah 9:7; Eph 2:14) (Peace)
Jeff and Mim discuss the concept of peace. Is peace the absence of conflict and hostility or is it the inner tranquility of the soul in the midst of the storm or something more profound in Christ? The Bible teaches us (cf. Ephesians 1) that in Christ we are loved, adopted as his children, forgiven, redeemed, and destined for an eternal inheritance. Jeff reflects on the full verse of Ephesians 2:14 (“For Christ is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the diving wall of hostility”) and its implications for missions and connects it with Matthew 22:37-40 and Matthew 25:31-45. Thank you for your continued prayers and greetings to Mim. Her recovery is slow but steady.

00(Familycast) Freed From Shame (Dan 9:7; Matthew 25:45) (Grace)
Shame-based people may frequently feel defensive when even minor criticism is given to them. Shame has a power over them. They often feel judged by others—frequently fearing that they will be thought of as incompetent, inadequate or worthless. They have an ongoing fear that they will be found to not measure up and will, therefore, eventually be rejected. Jesus knows these people need His voice to correct the voices that have surrounded these people in their lives. His voice is full of grace and truth. But it takes time to get free from the effect that shame has had on us. For starters, check out “Listening to the Shepherd’s voice” found on page 187 in your book. 00(Theta) Refuge (Psalm 16:2 & 2 Thessalonians 3:3) (Trust)
When we cry out to God we are fulfilling one of our important purposes as a member of the body of Christ. God uses our prayers of intercession to change the world. The ministry of intercession is not just ours. Paul writes in Romans 8 that this is also one of the ways the Spirit works in us. He declares this In Romans 8:26. “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” But intercession is also the work of Jesus. Again in Romans 8:34 he reveals this purpose Christ has. “Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died —more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.” So when you are crying out to God our Father, know that your prayers are shared by the Holy Spirit and Jesus. We are in this together as intercessors for God’s “kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven.”

00(Discipleship) Abiding In Jesus Is Life (Jeremiah 17:7 8; John 15:5) (Discipleship)
We are sharing days of abiding in Jesus. On Sunday the “Shepherd’s Voice” was used by our prayer writers as a way of helping us abide in the love of Jesus. Today, our podcast helps us see the connection with abiding in Jesus and bearing fruit like that of an apple tree. But the fruit of abiding in Jesus first creates the experience of absolving since in the presence of our Lord, we experience absolution. And absolution leads to a life of abundance or abounding. When you are forgiven, you bounce back from whatever has brought you down. This is the abundant life Jesus’s gives. He changes us and we change the world. Because we bounce, we give the world bounce. Jesus frees us from ourselves to bless the world with a love that is out of this world. May our Lord guide your bounce today to someone who is trapped in himself or herself.

Do you know what it means to be named in someone’s will? You will receive something terrific that you never dreamed possible. That’s what James declares to you in today’s text. God has named you in His will to receive a tremendous gift. You are going to inherit a Kingdom! This promise comes to you from the Creator of the all things. This God kept His promise to send the Messiah, (Christ), who is His only begotten Son. This God has also given you His Holy Spirit so that you may be rich in faith. This God has named you an heir of His kingdom. Go ahead! Get excited! You made it! You have God’s word on it, written in His word, you will inherit the kingdom! It’s too good not to be true!
