Our purpose is to help you hear the grace of Jesus in these verses so that your life may find its grounding in Christ alone. 00(Irishcast) From Death To Life (Ps 116v8; Luke 8v43,44)
In the ancient town of Magdala (just north of Tiberius on the Sea of Galilee) recent archeological discoveries have revealed the ruins of this ancient town. The Roman Catholic Church has created a retreat center next to the archeological site. In the lower level of one of their main buildings, is the Encounter Chapel. The Encounter painting pictured above by Daniel Cariola is a portion of the huge mural that portrays today’s text from Luke. The painting is dedicated to Jesus’ encounter for all of us, whatever our needs may be, that we could touch Him. 00Our Healer Of Our Incurable Wounds (Jer 30:12,17; 1 John 3:5 6) (Healing)
Our incurable wound is that we cannot ever be clean. All our efforts to be good, kind or generous in some way serve our desire to prove how good we are compared perhaps to others who are not trying to be as good as we are. In this way we feel, we may not be perfect but at least we are better than most others. But God does not grade our habits on a curve. It is strictly clear that all our good efforts are like proudly presenting God with a dirty diaper. This is why today’s texts are so important. The Jeremiah reading shows how desperate we are for healing. The 1 John text shows why Christ is our solution. And of course His solution is absolution. When Jesus absolves you, He is the sponge who absorbs your messy diaper into Himself. So trust the only one who can cure your incurable would by taking your sinful self into His innocent body.

00(Mission Cast) The Presence Of Christ (Psalm 8:1 ; Acts 1:8)
Jeff and Mim discuss what it means to brings Christ’s love into situations where Christ has not been named or known or has been rejected. Jeff shares a recent experience he had with a man dying in the hospital who did not “believe in God” and did not want prayer or scripture; yet, he esteemed and valued one man in his past who was a faithful ambassador of Christ’s love. Mim relates, too, a story from a recent camp in England with a man who was angry with God for all the suffering and tragedy in the world. Yet, through the steady and faithful loving witness of those around him, he softened in his heart. You may not feel adequate to the task, but God is able to make all grace abound to you so that you are sufficient in the task. All you need is to humbly offer what you have in the moment — your “five loaves and two fish.” In the hands of Jesus, it will be enough, because is a faithful witness to himself. Sometimes people reject the God represented to them, while not actually rejecting Jesus Christ. We are amazed that God has entrusted to us his gospel, for we are only broken, earthen vessels. But God, living in us, is faithful to himself. It is not about us, whether we are well-liked or esteemed. It is about Jesus and his love.

00(Hudsoncast) We Follow Our Forgiver (Jeremiah 2:21; Romans 11:2) (Forgiveness)
Today’s verses and podcast affirm for us the great promise of Romans 8: 31-32. “If God be for us who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, will He not lavish upon us all He has to give.” In the world we fear rejection but with God that fear is resolved by the cross of Jesus Christ. Nothing can separate you from His love. His cross assures you of this. So when you feel tempted to fear rejection by others because of who you are, what you believe, or what you do, know that you have a Savior who formed you, shaped you, died for you and lives every day to pray for you so that you can be assured that you are not rejected by Him. Spend some time in Romans 8. Read it in different translations. Write out a shepherd’s voice for yourself based on these words. Watch your fear of rejection dissolve in the promises of God.

The Lord told Abram that through him, God would bless all the families of the earth. At the time there weren’t 8 billion people alive in all kinds of families. But God said “all the families from now on will be blessed through you.” We who believe in the God who saves the ungodly are among those blessed through this man. So rest in the faith God has given you to know that our Lord has blessed you like Abraham in spite of everything you know about yourself. And He will bless others through you.

00Jesus Comes To Your Imperfect House (Psalm 10:17; Luke 19:5 6)
When Jesus makes his home in us, he does the housecleaning that is necessary for him to dwell with us. Some habits may change but our inclination to sin and to disobey God is still in our house. It may be in the basement, but it’s there. Zacheus and Martin Luther both knew the depravity of their condition and they both depended on the goodness of their Lord to live with them in this depraved condition. Luther wrote a letter to his friend George Spenlein in 1516, reflecting this condition. “Beware, my brother, at aiming at a purity which rebels against being classed with sinners. For Christ only dwells among sinners. For this He came from heaven, where He dwelt among saints…If He, thy Lord, had only lived among the good, or had died only for His friends, for whom then would He have died, or with whom could He have lived?” So know that your foundation of faith is Jesus who dwells within your sinful self in all your wicked, selfish, sneaky ways. Jesus is with you.

00(Irishcast) Nothing Is Impossible With God (Job 42v2 Luke 1v37) (Hope)
Jesus brings hope to the hopeless. He never leaves us alone. No matter what our situation, the love of God has been poured into our hearts and that is permanent; our problems are always temporary (from Romans 5:5 which is the text above). When we dwell in God’s promises, our hope in Christ is renewed. We realize that He truly is always present in our lives, and hope abounds. Hope is God’s gift to you. Rest in those words of our Lord which help you experience hope in God. You will be assured of that enduring and unshakeable foundation which is the rock on which your life is built. This foundation of hope ultimately leads you to greater endurance and a deeper faith.
