(Familycast) Standing Firm For The Freedom Of The Gospel (Ezra 8:31; 2 Timothy 3:11)
Today’s message on deliverance from persecution is the theme of the movie, “Saint Philip Neri: I Prefer Heaven.” Neri was a Roman Catholic priest who wanted to go to India as part of the ministry of the Jesuits. But God wanted him to go somewhere else. He was to be a minister to the lost children of Rome. His story parallels the theology of Martin Luther who lived at the same time. Neri believed God had called him to bring the freedom of the gospel to the people he served. One freeing thing about the film is how he absolved hundreds of people and never demand acts of penitence from them. Neri found his calling from God, like Abraham in Sunday’s texts, to lead him to places and people where he did not choose to go but once there his heart held him close to them. For all you saints who wonder about your calling, or your vocation, know that Jesus has appointed you for His work to be done where you are. Remember the promise from Ephesians 2:10. Your God has some good works prepared for you to do. Look for them today. And like all these other saints, Ezra and Paul, walk into them by faith.
