( Theta) Subversive Singing! (Psalm 150:2 & Colossians 3:16) (Hope)

Paul and Silas are singing in jail. In Acts 16, we read about them being thrown into prison for their beliefs. Instead of despairing, they chose to sing hymns and praise God in spite of their awful circumstances. Their worship led to a miraculous earthquake that ultimately resulted in the salvation of their jailer. We know of many believers whose singing in the face of terrible calamity has created hope for others. You can find many stories of missionaries who sang hymns of praise right up until their death. Singing may not break down the prison walls but it always breaks down our doubts and fears and lets our faith abound.

Prayer

Lord God, you made a universe that delights you with the rhythms of creation. Birds, beasts, plants, and waters sing your praise. I want to praise you for the mercy that forgives, heals, redeems and shelters me, but sometimes I forget the tune and can't find the words. Reawaken my spirit today to join and share your joyful music. Amen.
