Jeff is solo today (Mim is traveling to raise awareness for missions to China). Jeff explores the concepts of Mercy as the compassionate withholding of deserved judgment or punishment as when a person, having wronged another, is met not with retribution but with kindness and understanding instead; and, Grace as the gift of restoration and acceptance upon receiving unearned favor or a second chance (undeserved love), which enables new beginnings and deeper connection. Jeff relates this to a recent experience he had at a graveside memorial, where the pastor spoke of standing before the Lord upon our death. We stand before Christ without merit, but not without being loved. Christ loves us! Jeff then tells a fable fashioned after the style of Paul Bunyan’s “Pilgrims’ Progress,” wherein he imagines Christian meeting Mercy and Grace. Whatever your daily grind may be, know that you are loved and forgiven by Jesus Christ.
To the Lord our God belong mercy and forgiveness.
Daniel 9:9
In Jesus Christ we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.
Ephesians 1:7
Thank you, Lord God, for being merciful and freeing me from the dungeon of darkness and the prison of my own sinfulness. Help me to receive forgiveness for past sins and failures. May I never forget all you have done for me through Jesus. I want your abundant riches to overflow into someone you send me today. Amen.
