Trapped! Captive! Unfree! That is our human condition. We don’t want to admit it. We pretend to be free but we are free finally only to feel sorry for ourselves and to take matters into our own hands when we get hurt. Christ breaks into our compound to free us. This freedom begins when we die to ourselves. This is the promise in baptism which unites you to the death of Christ who then leads you to walk with Him in His resurrection power of forgivin’ livin’ under His grace and walking in His way, His truth and His life each day. We lay down our swords and take up His cross.
O God, do not keep silent; do not hold your peace or be still, O God! Even now your enemies are in tumult; those who hate you have raised their heads.
Psalm 83:1-2
Lord, should we strike with the sword?
Luke 22:49
Eternal God, I regret my unwillingness to honor your way. When someone angers me, I want to retaliate. Thank you for showing me your will. In the midst of hostility, you bring healing. You die for your enemies. Today, strengthen me to trust you. Show me how to pray for and to bless those who hate. Amen.
