(Sundaycast) God Frustrates Us For Our Good (Psalm 33:10; Acts 5:38 39) (Guidance)

Today’s verses remind us of many times when our will has been frustrated by God who wants us to conform to His will. The picture of Jonah in the belly of the fish reminds us that our distress is one time when we realize we have fallen away from God. But even this distress not change Jonah’s heart. At the end of his book, Jonah is still arguing with God about showing mercy on the wretched Ninevites. Who are the Ninevites on your list of people who don’t deserve God’s mercy and grace? Maybe today, a good way to begin your prayer time is to thank your Lord Jesus for taking your wretchedness into His belly and giving you His goodness and kindness in exchange. Then begin to look around you at people you despise and pour some of our Lord’s gift of goodness and kindness on them.

Old Testament Verse

The Lord frustrates the plans of the peoples.
Psalm 33:10

New Testament Verse

Gamaliel said, "Keep away from these men and let them alone, because if this plan or this undertaking is of human origin, it will fail; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them."
Acts 5:38-39

Prayer

Holy Lord, thank you for wisdom that gives direction to my action. I regret that I often throw myself headlong into my own fallible plans. Frustrate my self-centered undertakings that can even be fighting against your gracious purposes. Help me listen for your counsel in my life. Let me participate in your work in this world. Amen.
