The image of a hen gathering her chicks under her wings is a picture of God’s protection of us in both the Old and New Testaments. The Father and the Son both know the danger in which we will be placed in this world. Jesus talks to HIs Father in John 17 about the challenges we are going through right now. His words give us peace in our painful moments but at times we need to affirm verses that speak God’s light into the darkness. We can speak out against whatever adversaries come against us. In your prayer journal download for today, you will find the Apostle’s Creed printed. Speak it aloud in the face of depression. Let its words renew faith in you in the hard times. Then consider other verses found in the download. Take time each day to meditate on two of these texts. Consider writing a prayer of thanks to God based on the two verses and pray it aloud. Share the prayer with one other person that the Lord leads you to. In this way we allow the Holy Spirit to gather us like chicks under the protection of our Father’s wings.
Boaz said to Ruth, "May you have a full reward from the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge!"
Ruth 2:12
For whoever would approach God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Hebrews 11:6
Gracious Father, thank you for taking me under your wings and lifting my fears and anxieties. Believing in you means seeking you day and night, and when I search, I find true reward in you. Help me faithfully keep my eyes on you as the true prize, not the empty rewards of this world. Guide my heart to you. Amen.
