Throughout the Bible, God shows how He connects with us. God knows how far we have fallen away from Him. We don’t realize how bad the problem is. But God does amazing things to help us connect with Him. First, He comes to us as a baby. Jesus is the King over all but He is not born in a palace away from people but rather in one of the most common places in that day, a stable where animals lived. Anyone could go into a stable. God the Father and God the Son want to connect with us so they chose a place where anyone could connect with Him. But as we know, connection is not the only thing needed in our life with God. Correction is needed. It’s needed in our life with our parents as well. This is where the wheels often come off the bus. No likes to be told, “that wasn’t quite right”….”you need to do it over again”…”no that was wrong”…But correction is necessary for all humans. Without it we are hopeless and lost. So let’s be aware that both connection and correction are needed for us to live as God’s children and then to be directed by Him. Read John 15:1-7 to see how the words of Jesus help us with connection—-correction—-direction.
Know, then, in your heart that, as a parent disciplines a child, so the LORD your God disciplines you.
Deuteronomy 8:5
All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.
2 Timothy 3:16
Loving God, thank you for training me to follow you. Most days I believe, but I need your Word when I backslide. Remind me of your commandments and connect me to a community of people that will correct me in my spiritual life. What joy it is that I can climb onto your lap and trust your love. Amen.
