Jeff and Mim discuss the hope we have for eternal life. In Christ, we are forgiven and redeemed. In Christ, we are reconciled and restored to right relationship with God. In Christ, we will be transformed into his likeness, receiving new, resurrected bodies, immortal and imperishable and incorruptible. We marvel over the hope of being restored and renewed and transformed into Christ’s image, the first-born of a new creation. We liken it to our friend Denny's restoration/modification project of a 1935 Packard 120 with “suicide doors” and a Chevy 454 cc, 354 HP stock engine (Pictured Above). He is installing new disc brakes, new transmission, new steering mechanism, and air conditioning and has custom built many features on the vehicle. Mim recalls “Do-Overs” in games and likens it to the grace of forgiveness. Jeff recounts toddlers who are disciplined for the first time and wonder if the parent still loves them. We count it a great joy to be messengers of this hope that we have in Christ — restored and transformed into something even better that the original design. You may feel “in process” like this car pictured above, but rest assured, God finishes all of his projects.
The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when the city shall be rebuilt for the Lord.
Jeremiah 31:38
And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "See, the home of God is among mortals."
Revelation 21:2-3
Holy God, this world is filled with anger, cruelty, and divisiveness. As a result, I get discouraged and start to lose hope. Thank you for the promise of a new heaven and a new earth. In the new Jerusalem you will dwell with your people. There I will experience true fulfillment, love, peace, and joy in your presence forever. Amen.
