Holy Trinity Sunday is an offense to the religions of the world that cannot believe that our God be three persons and still one God. We are always looking for ways to understand this truth but it always eludes our wisdom. It is humbling for us to admit we will never really understand this relationship until we one day see God face to face. Until that day the power of the Trinity remains hidden. We have many hints of the three in One but they never allow us to have the last word. Until that last day, the Trinity will always be inscrutable.
How weighty to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
Psalm 139:17
O the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!
Romans 11:33
My God, I praise you for the enormity of your presence. The more you give, the more there is for everyone. I regret that I try to second-guess you, imposing on your children my own mistaken notions of your will. Free me from my smallness. Free me to worship in the huge tent that you pitch for us all. Amen.
