(Holycast) Forgiveness Creates Holy Hilarity (1 Sam 2:2; Rev 4:8) (Forgiveness)

Jeff and Mim and Luke and Barb join us today to discuss what it means to be holy. How does the background painting of the laughing Jesus relate to being holy? The title of our podcast connects forgiveness with holy hilarity. Can there be such a thing as holy laughter? A pastor once asked me “how can you tell if the gospel is being preached in a church?” I came up with all the answers that you might find related to Galatians 5:22-23, the fruit of the Spirit. But my friend pushed a little more. When you live under any kind of expectation for your Christian life, you inevitably fall under the need to perform to meet those expectations. That is life under the law. And the law cannot produce the fruit of the Spirit. But when you are under grace, then you live your life as a result of being chosen by God to be His child. You are free from any need to perform. You relax. You are resting in Jesus only. You are free to laugh at yourself…at your failures…at anything that may cause you to be anxious. So my pastor said, “a church that is hearing the gospel preached has worshipers who are free to laugh.” Laughter is a result of the gospel. God’s holiness produces hilarity in us.

Prayer

Mighty God, I am so small, yet you have overcome earth and time to walk beside me. You give me breath to praise you and to pray for all your children. I regret admiring my own feeble achievements. Let me sing and proclaim your excellence and generosity all day long. Worshiping you is life itself. Amen.
