“ I’m dead to that” was a phrase. I learned years ago from a Bible study teacher. It connects to this message in Roman 6:11, which says “ consider your self dead to sin.” I would say this out loud to myself when I started to fall into some temptation of self-pity. I made the mistake of sharing this insight with my three sons. Now, when I fall, prey to that feeling of being a victim, one of them will say to me, “Of course you’re dead to that aren’t you dad?” So how do we let our sinful thoughts and desires be buried so they can rest in peace (RIP) and not trouble us? You may find it possible to use this little phrase, “I’m dead to that.” And if you share this new habit with others, some of them will gladly assist you in reminding you of your need to be dead to yourself but alive to God in Christ.
I walk before the Lord in the land of the living.
Psalm 116:9
So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Romans 6:11
Dear Jesus, you died for my sins. Now I am dead to them and alive to you. I live by gratitude that is eternal. I am sorry when I listen to influencers other than you on life's journey. Wherever you lead me, help me live in your space of grace. I pray my life walks others toward living with you. Amen.
