Fresh baked bread can trigger an appetite that we know bread will satisfy our hunger. Our Lord Jesus is the only one who can truly satisfy our deepest hunger. What creates that deep hunger in you? By nature we look for the “food which perishes” instead of the “food which endures to everlasting life”. Satisfaction and meaning are sought in things that ultimately give neither. The widow discovered deep satisfaction in pouring everything that we normally hold onto for satisfaction into the One who truly satisfies. “ I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world” (John 6:35,51). Take time today to ask God to give you a hunger for Jesus only.
Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread and your earnings for that which does not satisfy? Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good.
Isaiah 55:2
The widow out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.
Mark 12:44
Loving God, you provide for your people with an overflowing abundance. In sending your Son, you have given all you have to give. Forgive me for withholding myself from you and for being miserly with my resources. Open my heart and unclench my fingers. Teach me to value what truly matters and to share with those around me. Amen.
